Sharma,Malinga hand MI easy win over DC

The Deccan Chargers began their chase on a confident note with Shikar Dhawan sending Munaf Patel to the boundary in the first over before reverse-sweeping Harbhajan Singh for another four. But there was trouble at the other end when Sunny Sohal was run out for 5 off 3 as the score read 14/1 in 1.5 overs.

But Dhawan immediately counter-attacked with consecutive fours off Munaf, before dispatching Harbhajan Singh to the boundary as the score moved to 31/1 in 4 overs. Then, Sangakkara struck Abu Nechim Ahmed for another four. Then demolition man Lasith Malinga bowled Dhawan for 25 off 22 as the score read 41/2 in 5.4 overs.

In the 8th over, Kieron Pollard's spell got off to a poor start as he bowled 5 wides straight up and then conceded a third man four. But two balls later, Cameron White was brilliantly run out, courtesy a direct hit from Malinga. The batsman was on his way for 1 off 7 balls as the Chargers had slipped to 55/3 in 7.5 overs with Bharat Chipli, the new man at the crease.

Pollard had a better follow-up over, removing Bharat Chipli for 6 of 8 as the Chargers stumbled to 72/4 in 9.4 overs. Then after a couple of quiet overs, Daniel Christian struck Abu Nichem for a six as the score moved onto 91/4 in 13 overs. The Chargers needed 82 off 42 balls at that juncture. Malinga then compounded the hosts woes by cleaning up Sangakkara for 34 off 28.

Then with the score at 99/5, Christian was stumped off Munaf Patel and the Chargers had lost their 6th wicket for less than 100 in 14.4 overs. Amit Mishra took his side past the mark to round off the 15th over. Then Malinga removed Dwaraka Ravi Teja with a simple caught-and-bowled for 1 off 4 balls as the score read a dismal 101/7.

In the 17th over, a desperate Mishra clobbered Munaf for three fours to reduce the equation to 57 off 18 balls. Then in the penultimate over, Dale Steyn was run out for 8 as the score now read 128/8. The Chargers needed another 45 runs off 7 balls. Just 7 runs came off as many balls with Mishra striking a four off Harbhajan to wrap up the Chargers unsuccessful run-chase.
