Bangalore, May 7: While Bangalore's M Chinnaswamy Stadium is currently in the thick of the Indian Premier League action, the main architect of the venue K P Padmanabha has passed away.
Padmanabha, who was 74 years old and who hailed from Tumkur district in Karnataka was a civil engineer by profession and a product of the BDT College of Engineering. He was instrumental in the conceptualisation and construction of Chinnaswamy when the stadium was commissioned in the late 1960s.
He has also contributed to several others major structures and projects in Bangalore and the city's upcoming metro rail was his brainchild.
Padmanabha is survived by his wife Shubha and their children Suken and Pradhan. He had donated his eyes and his body has been submitted for medical research to the M S Ramaiah Medical College.
