Trott's Test average second only to Don

Cardiff, May 31: If you think that Sachin Tendulkar is the best Test batsman after Sri Don Bradman (if not on par or better than him), there's one statistic which will prove you wrong - the Test batsmen's average. It appears that English top-order batter Jonathan Trott has emerged as the proud owner of the second-highest batting average to the Don.

A double hundred in the opening Test against Sri Lanka took Trott's Test average to a shade over 67. And though such a figure surpasses the averages of all-time greats as South Africa's Graeme Pollock (60.97), West Indies' George Headly (60.83) and England's Herbert Sutcliffe (60.73), it is still a long way shy of the Don's seemingly insurmountable 99.94.

When Bradman took guard for his final Test appearance at the Oval in 1948, he was just four runs off from securing a cent per cent battinbg average, but was deprived of that distinction by English leg spinner Eric Hollies who bowled him for nought.
