Port of Spain, June 2: Explosive West Indies opener Chris Gayle may have been snubbed by the West Indies Cricket Board by not being selected for the first few matches against the touring Indian side.
But the tall Jamaican has found support from the West Indies Players Association. The WIPA has showered praise on him for his outstanding performance in the Indian Premier League.
But Gayle wasn't the only one to receive the congratulations from the association. The West Indies Players Association (WIPA) also sent congratulatory messages to Jerome Taylor, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo, for their impressive performance in the cash-rich Twenty20 league.
The special mention was obviously reserved for Gayle, who emerged as the top-scorer with a whopping 608 runs - including two centuries - and adjudged Player of the Tournament.
"Gayle's participation was particularly noteworthy since he was a latecomer to the tournament, but ended it by powering his team to the finals," 'Jamaica Gleaner' quoted a WIPA media release.
"After 12 matches, he amassed 608 runs, made the highest score of 107 and recorded a phenomenal strike rate of 183.13", the release further stated.
WIPA also spotlighted the performances of Pollard, who captured the tournament's most catches award, and Bravo, who was a member of the winning Chennai Super Kings team, saying that they had contributed to making the region feel proud.
