Eden to make comeback after WC brush-off

Kolkata, June 18: The BCCI is all set to allot Eden Gardens atleast one international match at the end of this year when the Tours and Fixtures Committee meet in Mumbai tomorrow to discuss the detailed itinerary of the twin home series against England and West Indies.

England are due to tour India in October for five ODIs and a lone Twenty20 International. They will be followed by West Indies who will play three Test matches along with five ODIs.

According to BCCI''s rotation policy, Mumbai''s Wankhede Stadium, Delhi''s Feroze Shah Kotla and Chennai''s Chepauk are three contenders for the Test matches.

Incidentally, all these three centres declined to host a Test match during earlier seasons due to the extensive renovation work in the lead up to the World Cup.

If given a chance, Wankhede will get a chance to host a match after six years since hosting England Test back in 2006.

Eden Gardens which was debarred from hosting the World Cup match between India and England after the ICC found the arrangements to be inadequate will be compensated for that loss.

Although sources indicated that Eden was likely to be granted the Twenty20 International, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) officials will appeal to the BCCI for atleast one more international match.

The CAB joint secretary Biswarup Dey, who is also a member of the Tours and Fixtures Committee is likely to push for one more match --- a Test or an ODI during the West Indies series.

It is unlikely that Eden will get to host a Test match as they last hosted one against South Africa in February last year. However with Mumbai Cricket Association likely to appeal for an ODI against England, Eden may well get a chance to host an ODI during the West Indies series.
