Bangalore, Jul 1: Expect fireworks when the world's number one ranked Test team takes on another contender for the top spot, and that too at the latter's home grounds. Yes it is about India's upcoming tour to England where they will play four Tests, five ODIs and a lone T20 game.
By all measures, this is India's toughest assignment ever since they donned the mantle of the top Test team. True there was the tour to South Africa earlier this year, but given the form and external conditions England appear to be a much better side than South Africa.
England have a very tall and potent pace attack and a spinner who on current form is probably the best in the World. English batting too is in good hands with the likes of Cook, Trott, Bell and Pietersen. So this brings us to a question on what should be the ideal squad that India should take to alleviate their chances of succeeding in the story.
Well before the selectors sit down to pick a squad, let us make our choice. Our choice is made by assuming that the selectors will chose a 16-member squad and it is for the Test series only.
Virender Sehwag (If he is fit), Gautam Gambhir (Provided he passes a fitness test), Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman (Who can drop these guys), Yuvraj Singh, Chetaswar Pujara, Rohit Sharma
Zaheer Khan (He is indispensable), S Sreesanth (Pardon his limited overs failing, he is a very good Test bowler), Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra
M S Dhoni, Parthiv Patel
