Trott overtakes Sachin in ICC rankings

Dubai, July 27: He may be on the threshold of completing a 100 international tons, but his dismal showing at Lord's in the first Test against England in the ongoing tour has caused Indian batting genius Sachin Tendulkar to slip to No. 3 in the ICC's Test batsman's rankings. English top-order batsman Jonathan Trott has taken second spot ahead of the Little Master and Kumar Sangakkara.

Meanwhile, James Anderson leapfrogged past Graeme Swann in the Test bowlers' listing top claim the No. 1 spot with 800 points. His surge in the rankings can be attributed to sensational second innings figures in the Lord's Test of 5/65, a haul which included the scalps of Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar and Suresg Raina.

Trott notched up a crucial 70 in England's first innings at Lord's, where he batted in challenging conditions on Day 1. Kevin Pietersen followed that with an unbeaten 202, which has been enough to push him back into the top 20.

"That first innings total was a magnificent performance and Kevin was mainly responsible for that," Andrew Strauss, the England captain, said. "That was one of the great innings I've seen since being involved [with cricket], in very difficult circumstances."

English wicketkeeper Matt Prior, who came up with 71 and an unbeaten 103 in the same match has also reached a new career-best rating, rising 10 places to 21st. Meanwhile, his fast-bowling team-mate Chris Tremlett's four wickets in the match have taken him to ninth place in the bowlers rankings. No to be outdone, Stuart Broad climbs four places and has also moved to fifth in the all-rounders' table.

India's speedsters Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma remain in the Top 10, while injured batsman Virender Sehwag has slipped to No. 10.
