Old Trafford, Aug 31: Rahul Dravid, who has been playing international cricket for a better part of the last two decades will be making his international T20 debut against England on Aug 31 at the Old Trafford. Coincidentally it was the same opposition against whom he kickstarted his Test career in 1996 and has gone on to become one of the legends of the game.
There is certainly more to his T20 debut for India as this is going to be his final game in the format at the international stage. Dravid who has not been a part of India's limited overs scheme of thing for the last two years was given a surprise recall for the T20 and ODI series against England. The veteran batsman was equally surprised as were his critics and fans around the world.
Stating that since he was not being considered for these formats, he had never hoped to make a comeback and thus duly announced that this will be his last hurrah in the limited overs format of international cricket.
It can be recalled that Dravid alongwith Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly had withdrawn themselves from the inaugural T20 world Cup in 2007 and asked the selectors to go in with a squad of younger players.
India went on to win the world cup and ever since then Dravid and Sachin have continued to refrain themselves from playing in international T20 matches. Both of them continue to play the T20 game in the Indian Premier League.
