Bangalore, Oct 7: Virat Kohli has always been one of the important players on the big stage. So naturally, asked about RCB dependent on Chris Gayle, he had some interesting things to say.
"I was talking to Saurabh Tiwary in the dressing room and he said, 'If Chris gets about 60-70, we have a fair chance of getting to 200 but if he gets out, we will get to 170-180.' I told him to keep believing in himself, and that once we get in, all of us have all the shots," said Kohli.
"It's just about being confident out there and not thinking that it's all about Chris. It's not about pressurizing him. He's been a wonderful player for us and we'd want him to keep going like that but in case he doesn't, you know, we've been picked for a reason as well. We have to prove that every now and then," Kohli said.
Kohli proved himself with a wonderful 36-ball 70 that along with Tillakaratne Dilshan's 47-ball 74 swung the deal RCB's way against a shell-shocked Redbacks outfit. "We knew that the wicket was good (to chase over 200) but you need some sort of partnership to get there. We just thought if Chris and Dilshan could bat for 5-6 overs and get us to a strong start which they did, it was going to be easier for us later on, to go at ten an over till the 13th over. That was our plan and we probably executed it properly," Kohli said of the wonderfully planned chase on Wednesday.
"We wanted to bowl first as well. We knew with the dew coming in we could go after any sort of total they put up. We always knew that it was going to be difficult to grip the ball in the second half of the game."
