Rajkot, Oct 25: Displaying all-round performance, Saurashtra today defeated Gujarat by 11 runs in their last league match in the West Zone Twenty-20 tournament.
Middle order batsman Kuldeep Sharma smashed 83 and Siddharth Trivedi scalped three wickets which secured Saurashtra victory thus keeping its hope alive in the knockout stage at the match played at SCA stadium here
Saurashtra will now have to wait for evening game. If Baroda wins then Saurashtra, Mumbai and Baroda would have had 12 points each in their kitty where net run rate would be taken into account to decide about the two teams which will sail to the next stage.
Earlier, Saurashtra skipper Jaydev Shah won the toss and decided to bat first. However, Shah who promoted himself to open the innings with Sagar Jogiyani did not last long as Gujarat's off spinner Mohnish Parmar dismissed the opening pair in quick succession.
Arpit Vasavada and Kuldeep Raval then repulsed Gujarat's bowling attack in which the latter contributed 83 runs off 41 balls with nine fours and five sixes while Vasavada smashed 45, including three fours.
On Gujarat side, Mohnish Parmar plucked two wickets for 27 runs, while Jesal Karia and Rohit Dahiya took one wicket each.
Gujarat's innings tottered while chasing the target of 163 runs. Manpreet Juneja's unbeaten 66 came off 52 balls went in vein as four batsmen got out on zero with exception of Asad Pathan who scored 30. Siddharth Trivedi from Gujarat claimed three wickets conceding 32 runs, while Sandip Maniar and Kamlesh Makwana took two wickets each for 29 and 27 runs respectively.
