Team India goes home to celebrate Diwali

Kolkata, Oct 26: Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Co left for their respective homes in the wee hours of today after inflicting a 5-0 whitewash on England with a 95-run victory in the final ODI here.

With just the last match of the series a one-off Twenty20 scheduled for October 29 left, the board has given a two-day break to the Indian cricketers that allowed them to celebrate Diwali with their near and dear ones.

Asked about his Diwali plans, skipper Dhoni whose inlaws stay in Kolkata, said, "Diwali manayenge Ranchi mein aur patake phodenge (I will celebrate the festival of lights in my home town Ranchi, bursting firecrackers)."

The World Cup winning skipper also extended Diwali wishes to the countrymen. Dhoni along with his wife Sakshi left together for Ranchi in the morning. Local India manager Samir Dasgupta said, "The team members took a 4am flight and they will return tomorrow evening or by Friday morning (for the T20)."

A few English players meanwhile played golf in the morning, while others remained confined to the team hotel.
