Jayawardene, 9th batsman to score 10,000 runs

Jayawardene reaches 10000 ODI runs
Dubai, Nov 19: Sri Lankan middle order batsman Mahela Jayawardene joins the elite club as he reached the 10000 run mark, during the third one day international against Pakistan at Dubai on Friday.

The 34 year old became the ninth batsman to achieve this feat in One day Internationals and the second Sri Lankan to score 10000 runs in ODIs after Sanath Jayasurya.

His knock of 17 against Pakistan in the third one dayer, helped him reach the milestone as he crossed the 10000 run mark while he was on 13. With 8 players ahead of him in the table,

Sachin Tendulkar is leading with 18,111 runs with 453 matches followed by two other Indians, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Australian former captain Ricky Ponting, South Africa's Jacques Kallis, Pakistan's Inzaman-ul-Haq and West Indian Brian Lara are others to have scored 10,000 or more runs in One day internationals.

Jayawardene has scored 10,004 runs from 355 matches with a highest score of 144. He has 15 hundreds and 61 half centuries against his name in One day Internationals.
