India lose 2 wickets in quick succession

Cuttack, Nov 29: Kemar Roach strikes as India lost two wickets in quick succession after a flying start as Parthiv Patel smashes a wide ball towards point for a simple catch to Anthony Martin. Gautam Gambhir throws his bat at a wide ball, it bounces extra and takes a thin edge, straight into the keeper's gloves. India need 170 runs more with eight wickets in hand in the 1st ODI at Barbati stadium, Cuttack.

Indian bowlers restricted West Indies to 211/9 in 50 overs as Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav got two wickets each. Post Bravo's dismissal Windies lost wickets in quick succession. Denesh Ramdin (14), skipper Darren Sammy (0) and Andre Russel (22) added 52 runs in 13 overs. Russels knock helped Windies cross 200.

Bravo's half century helped Windies score 160/6 after 37 overs before being dismissed by Raina for 60, while Kieron Pollard (13) followed suit as he was dismissed by Ashwin while he was aiming to post a decent total.

Darren Bravo, scored a half century before being dismissed by Raina for 60 which included six boundaries. Bravo survived two chances before being bowled by Raina for 60. He was dropped by Ashwin while he was on 26 and by Raina on 60, but a very good innings came to an end as Raina bowled a quicker one, as the ball slipped past the inner half of the bat and hit the stumps.

Windies managed to score only 11 runs for the loss of one wicket in their batting powerplay. The highest partnership during the Windies innings was between Bravo and Hyatt (75) for the fourth wicket.

Indian bowlers managed to get 3 wickets early as Windies were 52/3 at the end of 10 overs. Seamers made merry as Vinay, Aaron and Yadav all picked a wicket each dismissing Adrian Barath (17), Marlon Samuels (10) and Simmons (19) giving India a great start in the opener of the 5 match series at Barbati Stadium, Cuttack.

The track at Barbati Stadium has been known to produce some low bounce. Dew is expected to play a role in the second half of the match which was a deciding factor at the toss as Stand-in skipper Virender Sehwag won the toss and decided to field first.

India decided to rest skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and master blaster Sachin Tendulkar for the first three matches while Sehwag is leading the side in Dhoni's absence. Indians are playing an inexperienced pace attack which is led by the Karnataka speedster, R Vinay Kumar in Praveen's absence after he was ruled out of the first three one-dayer due to a niggle.

For Windies Devendra Bishoo and Fidel Edwards have been ruled out for the five-match ODI series in India. they are replaced by The Trinidadian duo, top-order batsman Jason Mohammed and unconventional spinner Sunil Narine.
