Bangalore, Dec 9: This year marks an incredible performance by the debutant bowlers. Its indeed been a wonderful year so far for the debutants as they have challenged the batsmen like never before. Australia's James Pattinson became the seventh bowler to have registered a five wicket haul on debut this year helping his team to register a victory.
This year has witnessed an outstanding performance by debutants as they have set a new record by claiming 103 wickets altogether to break the earlier record fo 83 wickets set by rookies in particular in the year 1948.
Infact these performances have come to light in the last three months, whether its Australia's Nathan Lyon's 5/34 against Srilanka at Galle or Bangladesh's Elias Sunny 's 6/94. New Zealand bowler, Doug Bracewell's 5 for 85 against Zimbabwe, Indian off-spinner, R Ashwin's 6/47 against West Indies and finally two five wicket hauls in the recently concluded series between South Africa and Australia. South African all-rounder, Vernon Philander's 5/15 and Australia's Pat Cummins' five wicket haul, all these were achieved in the last few months.
With still a few days left for the year to wind up, it remains to be seen if there are many more to add to this list and also watch for these debutants during the upcoming series' as India face Australia in the 4 match test series later this month, while South Africa play Sri Lanka during the same time.
