New Delhi, Dec 16: The Man of Records, recipient of many honours in the past, Sachin Tendulkar is also eligible for India's highest civilian honour , Bharat Ratna as the government of India has made necessary changes in the eligibility criteria for a person to be nominated for this honour.
Hockey legend Dhyan Chand and the master blaster are now eligible for Bharat Ratna awards.
The highest civilian honour, is now awarded in recognition of exceptional services or performance of the highest level "in any field of human endeavour" covering almost every field which was not in the purview.
Earlier, the award was restricted to fields such as arts, literature, science and public science, as the government found it difficult to include candidates outside these fields inlcuding sports.
With the recent amendment, India's legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar can be bestowed with the highest civilian honour - Bharat Ratna
