Melbourne, Dec 24: People who visited the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, got to witness a rare sight as master blaster Sachin Tendulkar bowled to son Arjun Tendulkar for close to 30 minutes at the indoor nets.
Former Australian batsman Dean Jones, couldn't get enough of the rare sight as he watched the session like a hawk. After playing a few shots off Dad Sachin's bowling, it was Arjun's turn to bowl. He did bowl a few left arm seamers to the dashing opener Virender Sehwag.
But Dean Jones was at his best, watched in awe as Arjun practiced at the nets. "What's your favourite shot, mate?" Dean askedm, before inquiring about who is coaching the teenager and if whether he is interested in Twenty20 cricket.
He also recalled that earlier when Geoff Marsh used to practice, he used to bring his son Shaun to the nets and also sais that he had seen that kid evolve as a cricketer over the years.
"I think it's very important for the kids to talk to more cricketers. Forget about all the coaching he will receive in the future, just spending time with cricketers at the nets should give him so much to pick up from," added Jones.
When Mid day asked him about Arjun, he said "Oh mate, if he can pick up 1/100th of his dad's skills , he should be alright. He was just telling me about scoring a hundred at a recent school match. Also, I heard he got eight wickets in a game. I am sure his father is tracking his progress very closely."
Guess, there is more to this story, as young Arjun is already making waves, looks like he is another star in the making. With valuable inputs from Papa Sachin he is definitely going to set the stage on fire.
