Melbourne, Dec 26: Australias batting coach Justin Langer On Monday revealed that he tried without success for the head coachs job, which ultimately went to South African Mickey Arthur.
"It was a good process. I just thought that somewhere down the track Id like to, well, coach Australia of course," Langer said on the opening day of the first Test between India and Australia in Melbourne.
"It was maybe a little premature with my lack of experience, but Ive really enjoyed my years here and Im gaining great experience in what Im doing now."
Langer took over as batting coach in 2009, within months of his fist-class retirement.
Arthur became Australias first foreign cricket coach after a revamp suggested by the Argus Review panel earlier this year.
