Melbourne, Dec 27: Dashing Opener Virender Sehwag became the 5th Indian batsman to score 8000 Test runs when he took a single off Siddle's delivery on the second day of the Boxing day Test at Melbourne on Tuesday.
He became the 23rd player to achieve this feat and the fifth Indian batsman to have accomplished this feat.

Sehwag's feat of 8000 runs off 160 innings is the fifth quickest in Tests. The other four quickest being Kumar Sangakkara (152), Sachin tendulkar (154) Gary Sobers (157) and Rahul Dravid (158)
While we take the number of Tests into consideration, then Sehwag is the fourth quickest. The record is jointly held by the Kumar Sangakkara (91) and Gary Sobers (91), followed by Mathew Hayden (92), Sehwag (93), Rahul Dravid (94), Brian Lara (94), Sunil Gavaskar (95) and Sachin Tendulkar (96).
Sehwag, scored his 31st Test fifty marking his ninth against Australia, fourth on the Australian soil. It was a quick fire half century as he took just 59 balls to reach 50 which included 5 boundaries.
Playing his second test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Sehwag has registered his second highest score of 67 while the highest being 195 eight years ago when he toured Australia.
He has recorded three half centuries against Australia in succession at their backyard - His scores of 63 and 151 at Adelaide in January 2008 and 67 at Melbourne show that he has been performing well agianst the Aussies.
Having played 8 Tests in Australia, Virender Sehwag has completed 900 runs at an average of 60 which includes 2 centuries and four fifties.
