Sydney, Jan 4: The stylish left hander has not been in great form off late. Its been a couple of months now, since we have witnessed a flamboyant innings from the Delhi Opener Gautam Gambhir. Time and again, it has been proved that Gambhir is struggling to score runs. Off late his foot work too has gone for a toss.
The way he bats, his shot selection and stroke play definitely suggest that he has to get back to basics first! Now, with another inevitable defeat barging on the visitors, the question is will the Indian team continue to play Gautam Gambhir or look for a replacement?
Incase, the team wants to utilize the services of the members of the squad, the think tank can opt for Rohit Sharma at No 6, and allow R Ashwin to open the innings with Virender Sehwag.
Since Ashwin has had a good record as an opener for Tamil Nadu, this could be one of the options for Team India right now, as Ashwin is considered more as a batsman than a bowler as he has been quite consistent with the bat.
Else, India should opt for Ajinkya Rahane, and leave out Gambhir while Rohit Sharma can replace Virat Kohli, as the No 6 slot is left open for players to cement their places. Kohli was a big let down as the team management had huge expectations on him as he was very consistent in the limited overs format for the past two years.
Rohit Sharma, who is still awaiting his Test debut, might get a chance in the third test as India are on the verge of losing the second Test too and surrendering the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to the Aussies.
