Lyon keen to prove his mettle at WACA

Perth, Jan 12: With Australia pondering the possibility of fielding an all-pace attack in a fast and bouncy WACA pitch on Friday, under-fire off-spinner Nathan Lyon has urged his captain to give him one last chance to prove his mettle in the third Test against India.

With below-par performances in the opening two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney, Lyon's place in the playing eleven is under threat from pacer Mitchell Starc.

To make matters worse for Lyon, the groundsmen have prepared a greenish wicket for the third Test here, prompting the Australian team management to think about an all-pace attack for the match.

"I would love to play. I have played here before with the South Australian Redbacks on debut and I had some success with the bounce and the wind. I am confident of my skill set to go well here. I think I can get the job done," Lyon was quoted as saying by The Courier Mail.

The 24-year-old New South Wales spinner may have taken just two wickets in the last two Tests against India but his overall Test record of 24 wickets might just force skipper Michael Clarke to give him one more look.

"I am looking forward to the challenge of bowling to the Indians here. It has been a great challenge for me so far but hopefully I can find something out of this deck. It has a little bit more bounce for me which helps," Lyon insisted.

"It has been a hard task bowling off-spin to them. Their hands are unbelievable ... so quick and with great control. They use all parts of the ground. Their whole batting line-up are really confident against spin. (Rahul) Dravid and (Sachin) Tendulkar are challenging to bowl to, (Virender) Sehwag comes hard and is always up for the trouble.

"I will keep toiling away and hopefully have some success. It is a challenge for me to tie down one end and keep the pressure on," he added.
