Gilchrist lauds Warner's innings

Perth, Jan 14: Former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist is very impressed by the manner in which David Warner completed his century at the WACA on Friday.

An attacking player himself, Gilchrist watched Warner's fifty from the stands but then left the venue to join his family. However he listened to the commentary while driving.

"I know he was scoring quickly, but I still liked the way he was in control of what he was doing," Gilchrist was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

"It is a credit to him the way he has harnessed his talent and proven himself in Test cricket."

Gilchrist feels among those who will enjoy Warner's work most will be the players at the other end.

"I played a couple of games with him at Middlesex and just having someone like him there and playing so well makes you relax," he said.

Gilchrist feels that Warner's opening partner Ed Cowan would benefit from the former's approach.

"If he could do that for someone like me who was well into retirement (from international cricket), you can imagine the benefits for someone like Ed Cowan playing in that environment," he further said.

Former selector Greg Chappell watched Warner closely during Australia A's Zimbabwe tour last year and began a strong push for him to play more first-class cricket and be considered for Test selection.
