Adelaide, Jan 24: Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has said South Africa's Jacques Kallis is the most effective player in Test cricket ahead of Indian greats Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Australia's Ricky Ponting while commentating during the fourth and final Test between India and Australia on Tuesday.
The stylish left-hander from Bengal made this comment when the commentators were discussing about Ricky Ponting becoming only the third player to score 13000 runs behind Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid.
Ponting registered his 13000th run while he was on 81, and went on to score his 41st Test hundred in his 275th innings.
When asked who is more effective in Test cricket among Tendulkar, Dravid, Ponitng and Kallis - 'Definitely Kallis', was Ganguly's reply.
Though Sachin Tendulkar leads the table being the top run-scorer in Tests, followed by Rahul Dravid, Ponting and Kallis at number four, Ganguly considering his Test average which is slightly above 57 and the South African's contribution to the game, a tally of 274 wickets and 12,260 runs in 150 Tests, made him statistically call Kallis the 'best all-rounder ever'.
Tendulkar also holds a record for the most Test centuries with 51 while Kallis and Ponting have scored 41 each.
