Adelaide, Jan 28: India slip to number three in the ICC Test rankings after a humiliating white-wash at the hands of Australia on Saturday as Clarke's men are placed at number four just behind Team India, differing by just a point.
During the start of the four match series, India were in the second place with 118 points and after a humiliating series wipe-out, they have fallen to 111 points while fourth-ranked Aussies have boosted their rankings after securing eight points which has put them alongside their rivals, stated an ICC release.
Though Dhoni's men stay ahead of Aussies by a fraction of a point. When the ratings are calculated beyond the decimal point, India have 111.10 points while Aussies have secured 110.80 points to be placed at fourth in the Test table.
Australia will have a chance to move ahead of India since they play West Indies in the Carribean this march as the three Test series is scheduled to start in Barbados from April 7.
If Australia manage to win a single test, it is enough to acquire India's place in the ICC Test rankings.
Team India has dropped from 129 points to 111 since 16 Dec 2010. In the last 13 months, India have won only two matches abroad and that was against South Africa and West Indies while they have lost two consecutive away series and to add to the disappointment both were wiped out as India registered eight successive losses on foreign soil after their recent loss at Adelaide, which Australia won by 298 runs.
Since India is playing the next Test series in September, there are chances of Australia moving ahead of Team India in the rankings table.
