Rohan Gavaskar retires from cricket

Kolkata, Feb 7: Former India one-day player Rohan Gavaskar on Tuesday, announced his retirement from competitive cricket, he played his last first class match more than two years ago.

Former batsman forwarded a letter to BCCI president N Srinivasan informing him about his retirement.

Rohan captained Bengal for two years from 2001 to 2002. son of former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, Rohan has played 11 ODIs in 2004, he had scored 151 runs at an average of 18.87 with only one half-century.

He has also played in 117 first class matches with a total score of 6938 first class runs with an average of 44.19 and 18 centuries alond with 34 half centuries, 212 not out being the highest score.

He played his last match against Uttar Pradesh in December 2009 in a Ranji Trophy Super League tie.

He played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League till 2010 before he took up media commitments.
