Viru rested for disagreeing with BCCI?

New Delhi, Mar 1: Speculations about 'resting' Virender Sehwag does not seem to end, as there are reports that suggest there could be another reason for dropping Sehwag. A verbal spat between Dhoni and Sehwag a fortnight ago, and the Delhi opener's withdrawal from issuing a joint statement to the media with MS Dhoni would have cost him a berth in the Asia Cup.

When Krishnamachari Srikkanth along with the selection committee met in Mumbai on Wednesday to select the team for the Asia Cup, the onus was on youngsters as they dropped rather 'rested' the seniors - Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan for the upcoming tournament in Bangladesh from Mar 11, 2012.

The selection committee announced a 15-member squad for the Asia Cup which did not feature Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan and Umesh Yadav.

Despite speculations on Sehwag being dropped, K Srikkanth said, Sehwag was rested on medical grounds. When reporters repeatedly questioned the status of Virender Sehwag, who played the previous ODI against Sri Lanka which India won by 7 wickets, Srikkanth said, he wasn't giving any reason, but had to give rest to the dashing opener due to an injury.

"Asking the same question in different ways will not get you a different answer. It is the honest truth. I am not giving any other reason. The players have been rested on injury grounds. That is a promise. I cannot show you the medical reports because it is an internal matter,"  Srikkanth said after announcing the squad for Asia Cup starting from March 11, 2012.

There are reports that after senior players Dhoni and Sehwag disagreed in public, passing comments during press conferences and when things were going out of control, BCCI intervened and had asked them to issue a joint statement to the media. While Dhoni reportedly agreed, Sehwag said 'No'.

If this wasn't enough, Sehwag and Dhoni were asked to address a joint press conference which never happened, as Dhoni alone addressed the media. Though he denied rift rumours, such instances make one feel otherwise.

Well, now the question is, since Sehwag disagreed with BCCI for issuing a joint statement and his non-turning to address a joint press conference would have cost him dear, as he was not selected for the Asia Cup? If so, it conveys a clear message about a rift in the team.
