Adelaide, Mar 7: Australia skipper Michael Clarke has agreed that rushing back to play after suffering from a hamstring injury has been a bad move as he is unlikely to be a part of the third final of the tri-series against Sri Lanka on Thursday.
Despite physio Alex Kountouris' advice, Clarke decided to play earlier than recommended which eventually aggravate his injury. Now, the Aussie skipper will undergo a scan on Wednesday to determine the extent of his injury after scoring a ton against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
"I've done something to my left hamstring, I don't know to what extent," Clarke said. "I have to have a scan tomorrow, but it's obviously not feeling good at the moment.
Though Clarke is due to undergo a scan, the hamstring strain seems to be quite serious which can rule him out of action for four weeks making it diffcult for the captain to maintain fitness before the start of the Carribean series - Tests and ODIs as the first Test is expected to start from April 7.
"We leave for West Indies in three days. I don't want to make a judgment until we have the scan, I think I'd be silly to do that. It's a tough one. I pushed really hard to try to get back for this finals series and tried my best not to give Alex much of an option to be honest.
"So I feel for him as much as my left leg at the moment, because I know he probably would've preferred me to take it easy, but I wanted to be part of this finals series. But after straining my right one I've probably favoured my left over the past couple of weeks or 10 days and I've done a bit of damage there, so we'll wait and see," said Clarke.
His unavailability would mean Shane Watson would lead the side against West Indies till skipper Clarke recovers from the injury.
George Bailey and Nathan Lyon have been included in the squad and will be travelling to the Carribean. They have been included in the squad for the third final against Sri Lanka on Thursday.
Australia, currently dealing with Clarke's injury need to cope with James Pattinson aswell. The fast bowler's participation in the third final against Sri Lanka is also doubtful due to an injury.
