New Delhi, Mar 8: After suffering a humiliating defeats Down Under, India batsman Gautam Gambhir said the team was looking ahead to a better performance in the Asia Cup starting on Sunday, March 11 in Bangladesh.
"The Asia Cup is an important tournament for us and the whole team is looking forward to it," Gambhir said.
Gambhir along with team mate and local boy Virat Kohli opted to play for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to get some match practice instead of taking rest.
Gambhir managed to score 37 off 57 balls as Delhi beat Railways by seven wickets in the quarter-finals.
Gambhir was happy to get some match practice under his belt before leaving for Dhaka. The win made it special for him.
"It was a good win for us and I am glad I played a part in it," said Gambhir.
India's dismal show continued in Australia as they were whitewashed 4-0 for the second consecutive time after the drubbing in England. India also departed early from the ODI tri series.
Gambhir had a decent tour Down Under scoring 181 runs in the Test series and 303 runs in the tri-series.
The Asia Cup, features India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh, starts on Sunday March 11 in Dhaka.
