Dhaka, Mar 11: Indian captain MS Dhoni on Saturday praised his former captain Rahul Dravid by saying there cannot be another Dravid, who announced his retirement from international cricket on Friday in Bangalore.
"Over 13,000 runs in Tests, over 10,000 in ODIs, I mean, what more can you expect from a cricketer who played for 16 years?" Dhoni addressed reporters after the team's arrival in Dhaka for the Asia Cup starting on Sunday.
"There cannot be another Rahul Dravid. He did everything he was asked to – opening, wicket-keeping – and he will be missed in the dressing room," he added. Dhoni feels youngsters cannot be compared to the batting legend. "Let us not put any pressure on any youngster, who might step in."
Dhoni hoped to take full advantage of the sub-continental conditions after a tough tour Down Under and said opening batsman Vireder Sehwag will be missed in the four-nation championship. "In these conditions, we believe that we can do well. Sehwag has such a telling effect on the bowlers and he will be missed but his absence also gives an opportunity for players like Yusuf Pathan and Ravindra Jadeja, who come lower down the order, to get a longer opportunity," Dhoni said.
Bangladesh take on Pakistan in the opening match of the Asia Cup on Sunday, March 11 in Dhaka while India take on Sri Lanka on Tuesday, March 13 in Dhaka.
