Melbourne, Mar 14: Former Australia skipper, Ricky Ponting after being dropped from the limited overs format, has been included in the Test squad for the tour of West Indies, on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old had recently confessed that he had no hopes of being picked for the limited overs format, while he will continue playing Tests after the first few ODIs in the recently concluded tri-series featuring India and Sri Lanka.
Leading the side in the absence of Michael Clarke, Ponting said he would concentrate on Tests after struggling to get back to form in the limited overs format, following his axing from the ODI squad.
Michael Clarke, who is nursing a hamstring injury is expected to be back for the Tests while he might miss out on One day internationals scheduled to start from Mar 16, 2012.
The squad includes five fast bowlers, Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Pattinson, Ryan Harris and Michael Starc while Pat Cummins who took 6-79 in his only Test till date, has not recovered yet was not considered for the tour.
Surprisingly, left arm spinner Michael Beer, who played one Test against England during the 2010-11 Ashes series, has been included in the squad for the Carribean with spinner Nathan Lyon.
Cricket Australia has included two players Matthew Wade and Peter Forrest, both uncapped players in the 16 member squad for the Test series against West Indies starting from April 7, 2012.
Out-of form Shaun Marsh, who is currently struggling to score runs, has been dropped while Brad Haddin has been included in the team alongwith Wade as wicket keepers for the Carribean tour.
"It is anticipated Michael Clarke will be fully recovered and take his place as captain for the first Test match in Barbados beginning on Saturday 7 April," chief selector John Inverarity said in a news release.
"Shane Watson will come back into the Test XI and he could replace Shaun Marsh in the vitally important number three position."
While Shane Watson, returns to the Test squad after nursing an calf injury, which sidelined him for the home series against India in Dec 2011.
