Two held for betting on SL-B'desh game

Bangalore, Mar 22: Police have arrested two persons involved in accepting bets during the Bangladesh and Sri Lanka match, the last league match of the Asia Cup here on Wednesday.

Jagdish (37) and Chandrashekar (52) were identified as culprits, It is learnt that the City Crime Branch (CCB) raided the betting den under Nagarbhavi limits in the city and arrested the two as they were accepting bets from people on the cricket match which proved to be vital as India's fate depended on the outcome of the match.

Policemen acting on the basis of prior information, conducted a raid at NGF layout in Nagarbhavi, which was found to be the place where Jagdish and Chandrashekhar were found allegedly accepting bets on the crucial clash between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh which was won by the hosts to enter the finals of the Asia Cup for the first time.

Police have also recovered Rs 5 lakh used for accepting bets, seven mobile phones, a television and a laptop during the raid. Further, police has produced the arrested persons before a local court on Wednesday.

Betting rackets have been quite common these days in the cricket frenzy nation like India and according to sources, betting and fixing once a rare phenomenon, has become rampant these days as former ICC President Ehsan Mani has also said that "India is the epicentre of betting".
