Sangakkara, who will captain Chargers, will miss the first match on April 7 against Chennai Super Kings. Sangakkara is currently playing for Sri Lanka in a Test series against England in Sri Lanka. Australian all-rounder Cameron White will lead team in Sangakkara's absence.
“We have decided that Parthiv Patel will keep wickets and Kumar Sangakkara will be there as a specialist batsman besides being the leader of this team. He will miss only the first game because of his commitment for Sri Lanka against England, but he will be available for the rest of the IPL for us," Lehmann was quoted as saying in "The Hindu" newspaper.
Lehmann said his team will play attacking cricket in this edition of IPL.
"We just want to play well and are looking forward to some attacking cricket. The mood is upbeat and we will play attacking and entertaining cricket to become the champions again," he said.
Lehmann and White said they were confident of winning the first game against Chennai Super Kings.
"We are confident of defeating the Chennai side," Lehmann said.
"The match against Chennai is going to be a tough one but we are hopeful of winning against them," White said.
