Mumbai, Mar 29: "Sachin Tendulkar is the reason I started playing" said Virat Kohli, during a felicitation function organised by business tycoon and IPL franchise Mumbai Indians owner Mukesh Ambani to honour Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the historic feat of 100 international centuries.
Kohli, who has been in terrific form lately, was asked to give his thoughts on Sachin Tendulkar, who recently completed the historic ton during the Asia Cup against Bangladesh.
The 23-year-old right-hander, who scored three hundreds in four one-day internationals, said as a child his dream was to only see Tendulkar in real life.
"He is the reason why I have started playing cricket. Like me I think most of the youngsters in the India started playing cricket because of him," Virat said as Tendulkar looked back at him smiling.
"Now it is just a great honour to share the same dressing room with him. I remember when I was small, my only dream was to see him in real life and to play with him now is just a great honour for me. I couldn't have asked for anything more," he added.
Meanwhile, Tendulkar himself is impressed with Kohli and that he could be the one breaking the 100 centuries record besides another promising talent, Rohit Sharma.
