Pune, Apr 6: Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium is all set to host matches in IPL 5 as the opening ceremony will be held ahead of its first match between Pune Warriors and Kings XI Punjab on Sunday.
With the match scheduled to start at 20:00 IST, the Sahara Pariwar has invited all the ticket holders to be a part of the opening ceremony which is expected to start at 5.30pm. The inauguration will feature performances from Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu, Dia Mirza, Preity Zinta, Neha Dhupia, Sameera Reddy, Jacqueline Fernandez and Amitabh Bachchan.
Apart from Bolywood stars' performance, the spectators will be treated by 192 cultural dancers and 120 Dhol and Tutari players along with 100 lezim dancers to mark the opening ceremony of Pune Warriors' home ground, according to the press release.
The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) stadium has been built keeping in mind the ‘comfort’ of the spectators in mind, the release said.
The stadium and the seating arrangement have been designed in such a way that an unobstructed view is assured from each and every location making it the best match viewing experience.
The ‘Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium’ of Maharashtra Cricket Association is an architectural jewel and has been designed by Sir Michael Hopkins, whereas the structural design has been done by AKT, U.K., setting up a stellar example of civil engineering.
The most important feature of this stadium is the rain water drainage system. Many a times, matches are abandoned, due to heavy downpour, while light showers also force officials to alter the match duration, this stadium provides a solution for the same.
In order to overcome this problem, MCA has opted for sand based outfield developed departmentally with technical assistance from STRI Limited, U.K. Due to this technology, even during the heavy showers, water on the outfield drained out fast making it ready for play again just in some minutes.
With such innovations, Pune Stadium is surely capturing all the attention ahead of its first match on Sunday. Cricketing fraternity and fans hope this opening ceremony not to be a replica of the IPL inauguration.
