Bangalore, Apr 7: As Royal Challengers Bangalore gear up to host their first match of the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League on Saturday, fake IPL tickets are being sold. The black ticket mafia are selling fake passes tickets at hotels, coffee houses and places near the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
When contacted by ThatsCricket, a Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) official, who did not want be named, said there were not aware of any such sale of fake tickets for Saturday's game.
According to reports in DNA, the black maketers' starting point are social networking websites. Shabaaz Kaze, who purchased fake tickets said, "These people have been operating through Facebook. They first post about the availability of tickets on walls, and then the tickets are just a call away. Once someone gets in touch with these people, customers are informed that the tickets can be purchased from a number of places. I bought tickets for the McDowells Best View Stand.
"I and my friends were duped. We figured out that the tickets were fake after I compared our tickets with those of a friend. We had bought them on Brigade Road," he said.
DNA met two of these fraudsters posing as customers and found 50-odd complimentary passes in their possession. But the question remains how they got hold of these passes when BBMP corporators have been struggling to their hands on 400-odd passes for themselves.
Akhil Sharma, one of the blackmarketers when assured that 10 passes would be purchased, said, “You should pick up only the complimentary passes since the tickets available in the black market are fake.” Ironically, genuine tickets are still available at the official counter.
Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Delhi Daredevils in their first match of IPL season 5 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore at 16:00 IST on Saturday, April 7.
