Barbados, Apr 12: Australia won a thrilling Test against West Indies by three wickets in fading light at the Kensington Oval on the fifth and final day on Wednesday.
The opening Test between the two sides produced some anxious moments for the visitors before they successfully chased down the target of 192.
Number three batsman Shane Watson top scored in the chase with 52 while Michael Hussey hit a 26-ball 32 to help Australia take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series.
On the final day, Australia needed 192 off 63 overs with two sessions to play. They ended the match with 192/7 in 47 overs.
Ben Hilfenhaus scampered for a single with his partner Ryan Harris as Australia won. It was thrilling finish as West Indies fielders managed to hit the stumps and it was referred to the third umpire to check whether Hilfenhaus was run out or not. The suspense ended with Hilfenahus safe and triggered celebrations for Australia.
Earlier in the day, West Indies were bowled out for 148 on the stroke of lunch after resuming on 71-5. Hilfenhaus finished with 4/27 Ryan Harris took thee wickets for 31.
The second Test of the series will get under way at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad on April 15, Sunday.
