Scorecard: IPL 5: Game 14: Kings XI Punjab Vs Pune Warriors
IPL 5: Results, Points Table
After a fine bowling effort by Mascarenhas had bowled Pune Warriors out for a paltry 115, Punjab completed the small chase in 17.4 overs losing just three wickets. Marsh remained unbeaten on 64 off 54 balls with seven boundaries and one six. With this win, Punjab avenged their loss to Pune last Sunday.
Punjab's innings was off to the worst possible start when paceman Ashok Dinda clean bowled opener Paul Valthaty for a first-ball duck. This raised Pune's hopes of defending the small score but Marsh and captain Adam Gilchrist put the chase back on track with a cautious approach.
The home team did not have to take any risks as the run rate was under six. The left-handed duo of Marsh and Gilchrist associated for 50 runs in eight overs before Sri Lankan fast bowler Angelo Mathews got rid of the skipper.
Legspinner Rahul Sharma dismissed Mandeep Singh in the 12th over with still 46 runs needed for a Punjab win. Gilchrist took a bold decision at the fall of third wicket by sending left-hander Piyush Chawla. Australian David Hussey was still in the pavilion but the captain opted for Piyush and he supported Marsh as they remained undefeated till the end. Piyush made 21 off 24 balls with three boundaries.
Interestingly, Pune maintained a clean slate in the Extras column. There were no wides, no balls, byes or legbyes.
