Jaipur, Apr 17: It's Rajasthan Royals versus Deccan Chargers in Game 20 of IPL 5 here on Tuesday. From outside it appears just a clash of two teams, but this 40-over skirmish has mini battles. These subplots should excite the crowd at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium and the millions of TV viewers.
First, two men in charge of their teams, Rahul Dravid and Kumar Sangakkara. Both are one of the best batsmen in the modern era. The right-hander and the left-hander are rated among the top Test batsmen. They are in the top bracket in the ODI format too. Besides displaying top-class batsmanship over the years, these two are shrewd leaders.
This will be the battle number one. When these two skippers walk out for the toss, a lot will depend on these men how they marshal their respective troops.
One of the most exciting contests in this year's IPL will be when South African pace spearhead bowls to opener Ajinkya Rahane. The talented young batsman has stolen the show with two exceptional knocks, including a century in Bangalore. Steyn almost won the game against Mumbai Indians on his own, but only to be denied by Rohit Sharma, who hit a last-ball six off Daniel Christian.
It will be a big test for Rahane to face upto Steyn. The South African is currently the top fast bowler in the world. His pace can frighten any batsman. Not only his quicker deliveries, he possesses slower ones too. A mouthwatering contest it should be between Rahane and Steyn.
The 23-year-old Rahane took a cautious path when handling Zaheer Khan in the last game. Will be tread on the same passage when dealing with Steyn or has he got the courage to attack the South African?
There is also England batsman Owais Shah, who has been in rollicking form of late. How Shah handles Steyn and company could decide Rajasthan Royals' batting destiny.
Rajashtan have made their home stadium as a fortress. Will Steyn and the rest breach it on Tuesday evening? A treat awaits the fans.
