Mohali, Apr 20: This is not good news for Kings XI Punjab. Already under pressure after three losses in five games, the Punjab side will face Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday night without their captain Adam Gilchrist. The Australian left-hander has ruled himself out of this game due to a hamstring injury.
"I will not be available for tomorrow's match. There is a slight (hamstring) tear," Gilchrist said on Thursday, while addressing the media.
Gilchrist, who is both the leader and coach of the team, pulled a hamstring while running a single during Punjab's innings against Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday. He had to retire hurt and later came back to resume batting.
Kolkata won that match by 8 wickets with Knight Riders' captain Gautam Gambhir shinning with the bat with an unbeaten half century.
The 40-year-old wicketkeeper had undergone a scan on Wednesday. And it revealed a hamstring tear.
"We will wait for further detailed results. There is nothing to hide. I wont be playing tomorrow," he said.
Another Australian David Hussey will captain the side against RCB on Friday night. Hussey is also yet to score big in the ongoing IPL tournament and this is an added responsibility for him.
