Mohali, Apr 20: Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers fired again to help Royal Challengers Bangalore clinch a much-needed five-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab in their IPL 5 match at PCA stadium in Mohali.
Chris Gayle and de Villiers fourth wicket partnership of 131 helped RCB fight back after early blows rocked their top-order. Gayle and de Villiers reached the 100-run mark in 62 balls to reduce the run-chase.
Man-of-the-match Gayle scored his second consecutive fifty, his 56-ball 87 knock consisted of four sixes and eight boundaries. AB de Villiers played another crucial innings of 52 off 36 deliveries.
Kings XI Punjab pacer Parwinder Awana claimed a total of four wickets for 34 runs. Awana struck twice in his first over with wickets of Mayank Agarwal (1) and Virat Kohli (4). Kohli, who once again failed to make an impact was dismissed after a brilliant catch was taken at point by Shaun Marsh.
An incredible single-handed catch by stand-in skipper David Hussey earned Parwinder his fourth wicket of Chris Gayle.
As Punjab suffer from two back-to-back defeats, the Royal Challengers have won to consecutive matches to end a three-match losing streak and are seventh in the table, a place above Kings XI Punjab.

Punjab all-rounder Azhar Mahmood scored a vital 14-ball 33 to help them put up a defendable total of 163/6. Though Kings XI faltered at the start, RCB's bowlers lacked intensity towards the end as Vinay Kumar was smashed for 40 runs while and Harsha Patel gave away 44 runs. Punjab managed to score 51 runs in the last four overs.
Mandeep Singh and Mahmood added 44 runs in 25 balls towards of the end to avoid yet another low-scoring game, the top-order slipped early as stand-in skipper David Hussey top-scored with 41 runs.
Punjab's top-order batting woes continued as openers Nitin Saini was bowled out by Zaheer Khan while out-of-form Paul Valthaty continued his miserable season as he was dismissed for 6. Shaun Marsh was dismissed after a decent innings of 26.

Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist is ruled out of this tie due to a hamstring injury, stand-in skipper David Hussey will lead Punjab.
Royal Challengers have brought in Andrew McDonald who replaces Tillakaratne Dilshan. Arun Karthik is in for left-arm spinner KP Appanna, who will keep instead of AB De Viliiers.
