Mumbai, Apr 21: Mumbai Indians have been dealt a huge blow as their ace paceman Lasith Malinga has returned home, according to a report in a leading English daily.
Malinga has returned to Sri Lanka due to a recurring back injury, The Times of India reported on Saturday morning.
The paper quoted Sri Lanka Cricket's Secretary, Nishantha Ranatunga confirming the news.
However, the report also mentioned that the Mumbai Indians team management had denied about the speedster's journey back home.
Mumbai's next match is at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium on Sunday when they face Kings XI Punjab.
Malinga has been one of the most successful bowlers in IPL history. His absence will create a big void in Mumbai's bowling attack. He has so far taken 9 wickets in four games. He had missed one match this season due to an injury.
Mumbai are sixth on the points table with six points from five games. They have already played four games without the injured Sachin Tendulkar.
