Cuttack, Apr 22: Kolkata Knight Riders added more misery to the wounded Deccan Chargers by registering another five-wicket win over them at the Barbati Stadium in Cuttack to mark their fourth win in IPL 5.
Gautam Gambhir's side played extremely well inspite of losing three wickets within 10 overs, as they got a few good partnerships in between which helped them reach the target of 127 in 19 overs.
Gautam Ganbhir (30), Jacques Kallis (23) and Manoj Tiwary (30*) helped the team chase the target of 127 with ease.
Deccan Chargers, on the other hand did not bowl well as they could not get assistance from a pitch that was slow and assisted spinners as they did not have enough runs on the board this time around.
Though they got three crucial wickets in the first ten overs, Chargers couldn't restrict the run-flow as Tiwary and Kallis ensured they reach the target slowly and steadily.
After scoring 42 runs in the powerplay, the run-rate was well under-check as they reached 100 within 16 overs, and the target in 19 overs.
Yusuf Pathan (6) continued to disappoint as he got out after smashing a delivery to the stands. But Kallis-Tiwary's 33-run partnership was the key to win the match.
Deccan Chargers, need to get back to basics as they have to make serious changes in order to win the next one as they play Gambhir's XI again at Eden Gardens on Tuesday.
