Bangalore, Apr 23: Deccan Chargers' fast bowler Ishant Sharma arrived here in the city on Monday for a rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy.
Ishant, who was ruled out of IPL 5 after a surgery on his left ankle before the start of the season, will spend a week here at NCA.
“Ishant arrived at the NCA this morning. He started his rehabilitation programme today. He will be here for about one week,” an NCA official said on Monday.
The lanky fast bowler had surgery in March and was then ruled out of cricket for six months. The surgery was performed by doctors in London.
The youngster from Delhi had been carrying the problem since the England tour last year. After rehabilitation at NCA, he played rest of the season. But the injury resurfaced during the Test series in Australia.
Deccan Chargers have missed Ishant so far in IPL 5. Their pace attack has relied heavily on only one man, Dale Steyn. The South African is lacking support.
"We are missing Ishant Sharma. He is a quality bowler but we have some good guys coming into the side to replace him. We wish him (Ishant) speedy recovery. We do not know how long he will be away. Therefore, we are focusing on the players we have in the team," Steyn had said after their first game in this IPL.
Ishant's team-mate Cameron White had described his absence as a “big loss.”
“There's no doubt about that...it's a big loss. We have to step ahead and fill the void by playing well,” said White.
