Dominica, Apr 24: Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting surpassed retired Indian Rahul Dravid to become the second highest Test run scorer during the opening day of the third Test against West Indies on Monday.
The veteran of 165 Tests, who made his debut in 1995, overtook Dravid's career total of 13,288 just after tea. But after going a run ahead of Dravid, Ponting was dismissed by West Indies off-spinner Shane Shillingford.
The 37-year-old, who has been under pressure for his poor show in the Caribbean with just 66 runs in four innings, have created speculations that the third and final Test could be his last.
Despite being under pressure, Ponting has no intention of calling it quits, but was looking forward to take on arch rivals South Afirca. "My love for the game and passion and desire to play and be successful hasn't changed," Ponting was quoted as saying on Sunday.
Ponting, who retired from one-day internationals, has scored 41 centuries and 61 fifties in total of 165 Tests.
India's Sachin Tendulkar has the highest total of Test runs with 15,470 at an average of 55.44.
