The match was called off at 11 pm. On-field umpires Billy Doctrove and Sudhir Asnani called off the match after heavy downpour.

The toss had taken place after a delay for more than an hour, stand-in skipper Virat Kohli chose to field after winning the toss. Kohli had to lead the side in the absence of skipper Daniel Vettori who was ruled out of this tie due to a hamstring injury.

But soon after the toss, it poured again, forcing further delay. After persistent downpour, the match was finally called off.

With this point CSK moved up to third place while RCB are on fourth in the points table.

For the second time this season, points have to be shared by teams due to heavy rain. The match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Charges had been abandoned due to heavy rains and strong winds.

Royal Challengers had brought in Andrew McDonald in Vettori's place, while Albie Morkel returned for CSK replacing Doug Bollinger and Yo Mahesh replaced Shadab Jakati.
