Pune, Apr 26: Deccan Chargers registered their first win in IPL 5 after beating Pune Warriors by 18 runs at the Subarata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune.
Cameron White's knock pushed Chargers to score a competitive total of 177/4. In reply, Pune Warrrios were restricted to 159/7 in 20 overs. Charges have finally won a game after seven matches.
Chaisng 178, Pune Warriors batsmen struggled as openers Jesse Ryder (7) and Manish Pandey (21)were dismissed early on. Ryder was caught on the leg side off Ankit Sharma while Pandey was bowled out by Rusty Theron.
Pune skipper Sourav Ganguly added a crucial 30 runs with Robin Uthappa for the third wicket. Pacer Manpreet Gony got the wicket of Ganguly who scored a 20-ball 23 and Uthappa was dismissed while trying a scoop shot which ended up rattling the stumps.
Theron claimed two wickets for 37 while youngster Ashish Reddy registered 32/2in four. Towards the final overs, Steven Smith (26) looked dangerous smashing three sixes in his 13-ball knock but was dismissed by Theron.
Pune Warriors lost their second consecutive match and are placed sixth in the Points Table after nine games.
Deccan Chargers innings report
Despite being in poor form, Cameron White scored his maiden IPL fifty to power Deccan Charges to 177/4 against Pune Warriors in Game 35 of IPL 5 at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune.
White smashed five sixes and six fours and added 75 runs with JP Duminy (26) for the fourth wicket to take Chargers to a defendable total.
After a firing start from openers Parthiv Patel (24) and Shikhar Dhawan (16), Chargers lost their in-form batsman, Dhawan, who was run-out. Parthiv Patel was in good touch hitting three fours and a six.
White and Patel added just 11 runs before the Chargers wicketkeeper departed. Skipper Kumar Sangakkara added 33 valuable runs for the third wicket along with White. Leg-spinner Rahul Sharma bowled out Sangakkara for 12.
Deccan Chargers skipper Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and elected to bat first.
Surprisingly, Deccan Charges had replaced Dale Steyn with Rusty Theron. Manpreet Gony plays his first game, who came in for Veer Pratap Singh and Ashish Reddy is in for Anand Rajan.
Warriors have made two changes Murali Karthik is in for Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Marlon Samuels replaces Luke Wright.
Undoubtedly the Warriors start favourites in this match against the Chargers who have remained winless so far in seven games. The Warriors, led by Sourav Ganguly, will aim to overpower Chargers after winning just one game in four matches.
Yuvraj Singh is in the stadium, he was spotted mostly with his teammates, played a few shots in the middle and huddled with his Warriors teammates.
