The right-handed Rayudu won the Man-of-the-match award for his unbeaten 17-ball 34 which steered Mumbai to a four-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab at the PCA Stadium on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old finished the match off with a boundary on the penultimate ball of the game bowled by Azhar Mahmood. He and Robin Peterson won the game for Mumbai when Punjab seemed to have been ahead at the end of the 18th over in the chase.
Speaking after the match, Harbhajan praised Rayudu and said he had no doubts that he would wear the India jersey “very soon.”
“There were too many runs on the board, the way Rayudu batted it was great, he was exceptional, I have no doubts he will go on to play for India very soon,” said Harbhajan.
Mumbai chased down 168 to win in Mohali. Peterson hammered a 7-ball 16 not out that was crucial in the end. Piyush Chawla's 19th over cost 27 runs.
The talented Rayudu, who hails from Hyderabad but now plays for Baroda in the Ranji Trophy, was impressive in last year's IPL. However, the Indian selectors did not pick Rayudu for India squad.
He will be hoping his captain's words come true this year.
