Chanderpaul, 10th player to score 10,000 Test runs

Chanderpaul joins 10,000 elite club

Roseau, Apr 27: West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul joined the elite 10000-Test runs club as he reached the 10000-run mark, during the final Test of the three-match Test series against Australia at Windsor Park on Thursday.

The 37 year old became only the tenth batsman in history to achieve this feat in Test Cricket and the second West Indies cricketer to join the elite 10,000 club.

Chanderpaul reached the milestone, while he was on 13 during his knock of 69 on Day 4 of the third Test against Australia on Thursday.

Playing his 140th Test, Chanderpaul has been around since 1994, ever since his debut against England in GeorgeTown, he has been the most reliable player for West Indies.

With 25 centuries and 57 fifties, the left-hand batsman has scored 10,055 runs with a highest score of 203 not out at an average of 50.02

Sachin Tendulkar is leading with 18,111 runs with 188 matches followed by Australia's Ricky Ponting (13,346) and Rahul Dravid (13,288). South Africa's Jacques Kallis, Australia's Allan Border and Steve Waugh, West Indies' Brian Lara and Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene are the other cricketers who have already in the 10,000-run club.
