Chennai, Apr 28: After a mixed start to the IPL 5 season for defending champions Chennai Super Kings with four wins in eight games, the title holders would aim to finish at the top of the points table in order to win their title, Chennai coach Stephen Fleming said on Friday.
"The team is happy about the fact that we have won 50 percent of the games we have played so far in the home and away format. We are aiming to finish at the top of the points table in the ongoing IPL," Fleming said ahead of his side's match against Kings XI Punjab here on Saturday.
CSK sit on third in the points table with eight points so far, "But we have to keep improving. We are looking at getting to the top spot," the Kiwi added.
When asked about the busy schedule, Fleming said, "We have not analysed the schedule. The team has only been looking at recovery time between games."
Fleming said though there is a problem choosing overseas players, form and consistency is key for selection.
"Yes, strategy comes in for selection. Albie Morkel is back. (Nuwan) Kulasekara has had two fantastic games. But you have to think of the form of a player and conditions before selecting the team for a particular game," he said.
"You must take this rationale into account while deciding the playing eleven. But the good thing is that the team was getting better with every game," the former Kiwi skipper said.
