Kolkata, Apr 30: Tickets for the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors to be held on Saturday, May 5 has been sold out within an hour at the Mohammadan Sporting ground as fans created havoc while police were forced to resort to lathicharge in order to control the situation.
More than 10,000 cricket fans were waiting in the queue since Saturday night to get a few tickets after the online quota was sold out, police said.
Since all the tickets were sold out within an hour's time, fans' disappointment led to a section of the crowd to damage the club counters. While police had to resort to lathicharge to bring the situation under control and the Red Road had to be blocked for about an hour due to the same, said an eyewitness.
Police however denied lathicharge, and said "there were some resentment from the crowd but we could bring the situation under control."
While a cricket fan who had queued at the counter since 2am in the morning said, "Many police officials used their influence to procure tickets from back doors. How can the tickets vanish within 30 minutes?"
Police meanwhile assured to make 2000 tickets available at the counters on Monday. Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore could not be reached after repeated attempts.
