Sehwag's super show lights up IPL 5

New Delhi, May 2: Virender Sehwag is in red-hot form. The Delhi Daredevils captain set a new Twenty20 record on Tuesday with a fifth successive half century in IPL 5. The way he is going, there is more trouble for opposition bowlers.

The way Sehwag and his team are playing at the moment, their run might culminate in capturing the title in Chennai on May 27. But T20 format is such that, it can swing the fortunes of a team in a space of 1 over. On current form, Delhi have a great chance to put their name on the glittering trophy. Delhi have already sealed four straight triumphs. One wonders is there anyone to stop them?

This IPL has marked a remarkable turnaround for Sehwag. He was under immense pressure on the tour of Australia. Runs had dried up in both Tests and ODIs Down Under. After that, he was rested for Asia Cup while many felt the opener was axed for poor shows in Australia.

Sehwag could muster only 198 runs in 8 innings during the India-Australia four-Test series. In the tri-series that followed, he was part of the rotation policy and featured in five games for a poor tally of 65.

In almost a month into IPL 5, Sehwag has rediscovered his old, attacking style of play. He has always played the game in unorthodox fashion. His mantra is simple, see the ball, hit the ball. Sehwag doesn't care for technique or reputation of a bowler. He has in him to destroy any attack on his day.

All these traits are clearly visible the way he has gone about accumulating 445 runs in IPL this season. Once a holder of the Orange Cap, he sits second, behind Ajinkya Rahane (458).

Sehwag has the highest strike rate so far in IPL 5 with 163.60 (batsmen with minimum of 100 runs). In 10 games, he averages 49.44 with a highest of 87 not out. His tally includes 51 fours and 17 sixes and 1 duck.

The 33-year-old is all set to India squad for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in September. If he continues his rich vein of form, it is not a good sign for international bowlers.

Sehwag's good friend and fellow opener Gautam Gambhir is also in same kind of form for Kolkata Knight Riders.

It has truly become Delhi domination in IPL 5. And it is Super Sehwag who is calling the shots.
